This gauge is designed to be used for .40 S&W loaded at standard OAL with jacketed bullets. Longer-loaded ammunition or ammunition loaded with lead and coated lead bullets may not fit. The 40XL model is designed for all bullets and OALs. 
 
NOTE: The silver regular .40 and 40L gauges have been discontinued.  The black .40 and 40XL models have the exact same SAAMI-minimum chamber; the only difference is the diameter of the bullet area and leade.
